The biggest game of the football season, the Super Bowl LVIII, is finally right around the corner. For months, 32 teams have been playing their hearts out for the opportunity to make it to the Super Bowl. After several hard-fought victories, we finally have those two teams: the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
The Super Bowl is also one of the most bet-on games of the entire year in any sport. There are seemingly a million prop bets to consider, but what about the game odds themselves? Check out the guide below and find out more about the two teams, what the lines and odds are, and which way the money is moving. Click here also to see our video preview for the Super Bowl LVIII.
Super Bowl LVIII
If you looked into most preseason predictions, there is a good chance that many pundits had one or both of these teams making the big game. They are two of the best franchises in the history of the NFL and have had nearly unmatched success in recent years.
The 49ers came into this season as being one of the unquestioned top teams in the league. With potent offensive weapons like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk, plus a tough defense, there were few teams that could stack up. Getting here almost felt like a given.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, didn’t take the journey most are used to. In years past, the Chiefs have dominated, typically finishing with home-field advantage. This year, the regular season was tough, even losing against the Denver Broncos.
So Kansas had to to win on the road. And that they did. They beat the Bills and Ravens on the road, finding themselves in a familiar position once again.
Which Team Are People In Colorado Supporting?
Well, for many reasons, football fans in Colorado state will more likely be leaning towards supporting the San Francisco 49ers than Patrick Mahomes’ team. First and foremost, the Denver Broncos have a long lasting rivalry with the Kansas City Chiefs.
One might say that beating them during the regular season was probably the peak of Broncos during the 2023 season, since Sean Payton’s team failed to make the playoffs another time (last time the Broncos qualified to the playoffs was in 2015, when they went all the way and won the Super Bowl).
The Chiefs are AFC West rivals for the Broncos and therefore they don’t gather much sympathy in the state. Plus, there are a few names from former Colorado state alumni that are in the 49ers roster.
Cornerback Isaiah Oliver was a Colorado Buffaloes player from 2015-2017, when he was started by the Atlanta Falcons. He moves to the 49ers last year and now he is going to make his first Super Bowl appearance.
Plus, Kyle Shanahan, the current head coach of the 49ers, attended Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, Colorado. He did it while his father, Mike Shanahan, was coaching the Denver Broncos. Mike is still regarded as one of the best Broncos managers of all time.
Finally, running back Christian McCaffrey is another name linking Colorado to the Super Bowl LVIII. The 49ers player, who was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2017, was born in Castle Rock (Colorado). McCaffrey went to high school in Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colorado).

Super Bowl LVIII Lines and Odds
Before placing a bet, it helps to know the odds and lines ahead of Super Bowl LVIII. For the most part, the spread has remained quite similar. The 49ers opened as 2.5-point favorites. The odds have bounced back and forth between 2 and 2.5 points, depending on the sportsbook.
For the most part, the odds of an outright win have remained the same. The 49ers are the slight favorite at -125 while the Chiefs are +110. Most of the public feels like the Chiefs are the safer bet but it is hard for the sportsbooks to ignore record and trajectory to this point.
The odds might come down to 1.5 points before Sunday but there shouldn’t be much movement otherwise. This will certainly be one of the more tightly contested Super Bowls in recent years.
Which Way Is The Money Trending?
For bettors in Colorado and across the United States, the action seems to largely be on the 49ers. A whopping 70% of the betting action is on the over (47.5/48). Nearly 60% of the total money is on the over as well.
When it comes to the spread and NFL moneyline, there is a clear favorite. The Chiefs have 59% of the bets and 67% of the money to win outright. Even more lopsided, they have 79% of the money against the spread and a whopping 84% of the bets.
Watching the trends of public betting is important when it comes to making a wager. Though the lines will no doubt shift once or twice more throughout the week, watching the bettors skew one way or another can have an impact on some betting strategies.

Super Bowl Betting Trends
If you plan on throwing a few bucks on the game, having all of the information is crucial. For instance, there is one major betting trend over the last 22 years that is worth noting. That trend? The underdogs are overwhelmingly successful against the spread over that time.
How successful? The underdogs are a whopping 15-6 against the spread. Of those six favorites, the Chiefs are the latest, having covered in Super Bowl 54. Interestingly enough, that would mark the third time in four years – the Patriots covered in Super Bowl 51 and 53 – that a favorite covered.
Just as interesting is the fact that AFC West Super Bowl participants tend to come up short offensively. Though the Chiefs and Eagles went over last year, the last three AFC appearances – Chiefs twice, Broncos once – all fell short. Could the Chiefs make it four of five?
Conclusion
Though there is no such thing as a guarantee when the Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday, the trends certainly make placing a wager interesting. The money seems to be on the underdog Chiefs on Sunday, whether it be the spread or money line.
When the ball is kicked off, the tension will be as high as it has been all year. Depending on your pick, it could equate to sitting on the edge of your seat and not just because of the action on the field.
